I used to be a runner in high school, but then I ended up choosing to just mainly focus on soccer. I played at UVU and that was a lot of fun! But now that soccer is over I am setting new running goals! I am married to the love of my life, Nick Beard, and even though he doesn’t love running, he is my number one supporter in all that I do and my best friend. :)

I'm not sure exactly how many miles it was or how many calories I burned, but I ran for 30 minutes. I did a 50 yard sprint every 5 minutes as hard as I could, and ran the rest of the time at about a 6 minute mile pace, I think. I'll try to wear my garmin for my next run! Then I'll know how far I went and how fast I was going! Then I came home and played soccer for like an hour, but then I had to finish my homework and study for my AP test. So I ended up going to bed at like midnight and waking up at 5:45 for school. But it's alright, it was fun! :)

Today I just woke up early before school and ran for 20 minutes! I'm not sure about what my pace was or exactly how far I went but it was probably somewhere around 3 miles! Wahoo! :)

This morning I ran for thirty minutes! I guess summer training has officially begun! Of course it's the day after school gets out... But oh well, it will be fun! Wahoo! :) Then I had soccer practice right after! This is going to be great!

Today I ran in the mountains for a trail run in Tabiona! We were visiting some family there and right before we went on a four wheeling adventure I thought it would be fun to go out and run for like 30 minutes! It was hilly and dusty but it was really pretty and I had a blast! :)

Hey Whitney - great to see you on here. You know, a few of the faster girls from East are on here plus Conner Mantz from Skyview High in Logan.

Try to make all your runs at least 30 minutes or four miles - whichever comes last. There's an old running saying, "out the door, no less than four". The reason why is that the body secretes a chemical called endothelin which enlarges and strengthens the heart so that it can pump more blood. The problem is, it doesn't begin secreting endothelin until about 30 minutes into a workout.

Oh okay! So is it bad if you don't go more that 30 minutes? Like what about repeat 800s or just a light run of some sort if I have soccer the same day?

Today after this high school soccer camp thingy I had, I just ran home! It's almost 4 miles and I was trying to go pretty fast but not too fast. Just a nice, but hard run you know? It took me 19 minutes and 19 seconds, I don't know if that's good or what but it was a fun little workout!! Oh and I got some new shoes!! The Saucony Kinvara2! They're awesome! :)

Do you have a Garmin GPS watch? If not, do you think you could get your parents to spring for one? It's a great way to know exactly what you are doing. You can also download the data directly from your watch to a computer.

You know... as long as your mom is going shopping.

Yes I have one!! But it broke so we sent it back to Garmin and they're in the process of sending us a new one and it's taking FOREVER!! But hopefully it will come really soon and I can know what I'm doing!!

Today I did 5 repeat 800's at 2:50 pace with two warm up laps and some technique work so I guess that adds up to about... 3 miles! :) Then since we don't have soccer, my mom gave me this HUGE list of lame chores... :P

This morning I warmed up (of course) then I did 2 200s (with Sierra), ran 4 miles (by myself), did 4 bleachers (by myself), ran up and down 4 hills (by myself), and did some mini hurdles (with Sierra) to work on form. It was a lot, but it was a good workout and it was fun! :) I guess I'll just round it up to 6 miles... but I'm still waiting on that stinkin Garmin!

Today I ran the Draper 5-k route just for fun because I might do the race on Saturday. I did it in 19 min. 6 sec. Definitely not my best time, but I just found out I have a little stress fracture in my shin... no wonder it was hurting in the last mile. So we'll see if it starts to feel better or not, hopefully! Or I won't be able to run on Saturday... and I have a lot of soccer coming up too!! Darn shin!

Do you have a stress fracture or shin splints? If it's shin splints, I would recommend icing your legs (use a small trash can and fill with ice water) for 20 minutes every time after exercise. It makes a huge difference if you are consistent with it. If you really suspect a stress fracture, I would go see a doctor (usually requires 6 weeks healing in a boot) so you'll be back before the fall season. Best of luck! :)

I'm going to the doctor today, but we called and talked to him and he says it sounds a lot like a stress fracture, but only a minor one that will need some rest... but hopefully everything will be alright!! Thank you! :)

I rode 10 miles on  my bike today, to the temple and back! It was great! :) I can't run because of my shin, but hopefully if I don't run not it it can get better really soon! Because that's what the doctor said to do. :)
